Lootboxes & Crates

Lootboxes are sealed reward boxes you collect as you play. Right-click one while standing in a safe zone to crack it open — an animated reveal rolls your rewards in front of you, and anything that doesn't fit in your inventory drops at your feet. Some of the bigger boxes announce their rewards to the whole network.

Some of the bigger boxes also carry a small chance at a jackpot — when it hits, one of your rolled rewards is upgraded to a pull from a separate, much juicier reward pool.

Booster Boxes

Booster boxes each contain one booster of a random type (XP, Ancient Energy, ore, or shard — see the Boosters page). The tier decides how strong that booster is:

Box Booster inside
Common Booster Box x1.5 booster, 60 minutes
Rare Booster Box x2 booster, 60 minutes
Epic Booster Box x2.5 booster, 60 minutes
Global Booster Box x2 global booster, 60 minutes — boosts everyone online when used

Mystery boxes

These boxes each roll one item from a themed pool:

  • Mystery Contraband — a contraband of any rarity, from Simple all the way up to Exceptional. Lower rarities are common; the top rarities are rare pulls.
  • Mystery Boss Summoning Key — a summoning key for one of the four bosses: Lamia, Echidna, Thanatos, or Hephaestus.
  • Mystery Warp Miner Orb — a Warp Miner enchant orb; low levels are common, the highest levels are rare.
  • Mystery G-Kit Beacon / Mystery GKit Upgrade — a gear-kit beacon (or an upgrade for one) from the Booster, Arcanist, Bedrock, Vanguard, or Bloodline lines.
  • Armor Expander Box / Weapon Expander Box — a slot expander for your armor or weapon, usually a single slot with a rarer chance at a double.
  • Prestige Token Box — a pickaxe prestige token: stat or perk rerolls most of the time, with rarer stat/perk swaps.
  • Enchanting Supply Box — enchanting materials: dust, erasers, black scrolls, white scrolls, randomization scrolls, or a mystery enchant orb.
  • Seasonal Rank Box — a temporary rank paper; low ranks are common and the top rank is an extremely rare pull. Opening one is announced to everyone.
  • Tracker Lootbox — a random tracker that follows one of your stats for the season (blocks mined, PvP kills, boss damage, KOTH wins, and many more).

Fund Lootboxes (I–V)

The community Fund has five tiers; each completed tier pays out its own lootbox — Fund I through Fund V. Each box opens several rewards at once, and the later tiers open more (and better) loot: enchant dust and erasers, booster boxes, mystery contrabands, boss keys, expander boxes, prestige tokens, g-kit flares and more. Every Fund box also has a jackpot pool headlined by a permanent rank paper — higher Fund tiers carry higher ranks — and the early tiers can also jackpot a Fortune's Dice. Fund box openings are broadcast to everyone.

Prestige Lootboxes (I–III)

Prestiging your pickaxe awards a Prestige Lootbox matching the prestige level (I, II, III). They focus on pickaxe progression: stat and perk rerolls/swaps, enchant orbs (Warp Miner, Efficiency, Momentum, Lucky — higher prestige boxes carry higher orb levels), enchant dust, booster boxes, expander boxes (from Prestige II up), and at Prestige III rarer extras like boss keys and Fortune's Dice.

Rift Caches (Tier I–III)

Rift Caches are bought in the Tartarus Rift event's item shop and come in three tiers:

  • Tier I — Rift Cache: a modest haul — utilities like enchant dust, forge fuel, Ancient Energy, shards, booster boxes and meteor flares, with a slim jackpot shot at rift-exclusive cosmetics.
  • Tier II — Greater Rift Cache: stronger rewards — mystery enchant orbs, enchant rerolls, heroic meteor flares, legendary shards — and a better shot at the rift-exclusive gear.
  • Tier III — Tartarus Rift Cache: the deepest tier, loaded with high-end loot (epic booster boxes, godly shards and contrabands, rerolls) and the only place to jackpot the rarest rift cosmetics and sigils.

Jackpot pulls from rift caches include the Riftborn armor trim, Coreheart pickaxe trim, Excavator offhand pieces, Echo Sigils, and — from the top tier only — the Tartarus Reroll and the elusive Tartarus Sigil. Jackpot wins are announced to everyone.

Seasonal Crates

Seasonal crates (also called Ancient Crates) are premium-grade crates released once per map. Unlike regular lootboxes, a crate guarantees its full payout: 10 guaranteed items plus a guaranteed bonus (jackpot) roll, every single time. Crates also open in a safe zone with their own celebratory animation, and openings are broadcast.

  • Tartarus Map I — the current map's crate, available in the in-game store (/store → Ancient Crates) for 5,000 Obols. Its guaranteed pool covers enchant dust, mystery enchant orbs, clue rerolls, heroic meteor flares, booster boxes, Fortune's Dice, Ancient Energy, boss essence and more; the bonus roll is headlined by epic booster boxes, mystery g-kit beacons, warp miner orb boxes, top-tier rift caches, and rare chases like a mining bot, a permanent rank paper, or a season pass.
  • Season 1 Crate — the crate from the previous map, celebrating the start of a new world.

You can browse every crate ever released — including past seasons — with /ancientcrates.

Lockboxes

Lockboxes are a special breed of box tied to Erebus's Pit: they can only be opened inside the Pit, and opening one is a risk. Right-clicking starts a timed unlock — you must keep the lockbox in your hand and stay in the Pit for the full countdown, and the moment you start, the whole server is told you're opening one. Swapping items or leaving the Pit cancels the unlock. No lockboxes are currently part of any regular reward pool.
