Bound Shade

The Bound Shade is a companion offhand in three tiers, torn out of Erebus Crates and found nowhere else in the game.

Equip one with /offhand and a shade forms beside you carrying your weapon. It follows you around, picks its own targets from whatever is in reach, and fights on its own — you don't aim it and you don't command it. Each hit it lands is a fraction of your own, and how big that fraction is rolls per instance, so two Bound Shades of the same tier can differ. Check the Offhand Collection menu to see the number yours rolled.

What to know before you rely on it

  • Hostile mobs only. It never touches another player, so it's dead weight in a duel or any PvP fight — but it works on shades and wraiths and on bosses.
  • It can be killed. Kill it and it reforms after 4 seconds.
  • It blinks back to you if it drifts too far, so it won't get left behind when you warp or outrun it.

Getting the tiers

Each Bound Shade tier only drops from the tear tiers it belongs to, and a higher tear never pays a lower tier — exactly one tier sits in any crate table. The practical consequence: once a tier's window on the level-cap ladder closes, that tier is gone for the season. If you want Tier I, chase it while low-tier tears are still opening.

Missing a lower tier doesn't block you from a higher one, though. Offhand tiers claim in any order now, and the picker always equips the highest tier you own of each archetype — so pulling a Tier III with nothing under it works fine.

Where to get it: Erebus Crates only, dropped by sealing an Erebus Tear.
