AncientsWiki

Four bosses haunt Ancients, each summoned at its own altar in the Boss Hub and fought in a private party arena for some of the best loot on the server. Open /boss to pick one, check its difficulty, see which arenas are in use, and reach the Boss Shop, Boss Leaderboard, and RNG Meter.

The difficulty ladder

Boss Difficulty Who it's for
Lamia Easy Everyone — the introductory boss
Echidna Moderate Level 60+
Thanatos Hard Level 100+ (or any prestige)
Hephaestus Very Hard Player Prestige II + Level 102

Don't let the order fool you: Hephaestus is the hardest fight on the server, a clear step above Thanatos. Access is gated by your player progression — your prestige and level, not a Hunter rank — so the gates above unlock naturally as you grow. See Summoning a Boss for the full process.

Forging a key

Each boss is opened with a single Boss Key, forged automatically once you stack 64 Essences of that boss. Essence drops from hunting — shades and wraiths in Forgotten Polis and Ancient Roads, and caravan crews — with tougher hunts carrying essence for tougher bosses. Collect 64 of one kind and it forges itself into that boss's key on the spot. One key, one summon.

Loot

All boss loot goes to the summoner — the player whose key opened the portal — and the size of the haul doesn't change with party size, so bring friends for the mechanics, not a smaller share. If the summoner is offline at the moment of the kill, the loot waits safely in their /stash. Each boss page describes the kinds of rewards it offers — gear, essences, and the occasional chase drop — and you can set a target on the RNG Meter for bad-luck protection on the rarer pulls. A few of the rarest finds in Tartarus are left undocumented on purpose — discover them yourself. Early in a season a boss can also be locked behind a Community Fund tier — the altar tells you which one opens it.

A word on the fights

These are real fights, not loot piñatas. Each boss has its own identity and its own ways to punish a careless party, so come geared and stay mobile. Two fair-play notes worth knowing going in: bosses slowly regenerate if you stop hitting them, and they can't be slowed or stun-locked. Everything else — the patterns, the tells, the moment to back off — is yours to learn in the arena.

This section covers each boss in detail, plus the shared systems behind every fight: summoning, fight mechanics, loot and drop announcements, the RNG Meter, and the Boss Leaderboard.

Version history

v2.0.0

  • Boss summons now use a player-level gate instead of Hunter rank: Echidna needs Level 60+, Thanatos Level 100+ (or any prestige), and Hephaestus Player Prestige II + Level 102. Lamia stays open as the introductory boss.
  • Bosses now slowly regenerate when left alone — after 10 seconds without taking damage they heal 1% max HP per second (paused during invulnerable phases), so don't stop hitting them.
  • Bosses can no longer be slowed or stun-locked — Slowness sources don't stick and rapid fire no longer flinch-pauses them.
