Gear & Armor

Weapons and armor on Ancients aren't static — they level up, store Ancient Energy, and carry custom enchants. Here's how the gear system works from your first chainmail set to endgame netherite.

The gear ladder

Armor, swords and axes come in tiers, each gated behind your player level. The requirement is shown right on the item.

Tier Required level Maximum gear level
Wooden weapons 1 20
Chainmail 10 20
Gold 30 25
Iron 60 30
Diamond 100 35
Netherite 102 + 2nd prestige 40

A piece's gear level (the green number on its name) grows as you enchant it, and caps at the tier maximum shown in its tooltip. Higher tiers don't just hit harder and protect better — they have more room to grow.

Charging gear with Ancient Energy

Every piece of gear has an energy bar in its tooltip. To fill it, hold Ancient Energy in one hand and the gear in the other, then sneak and right-click — the energy pours into the item. That stored energy is the fuel for enchanting.

Each gear level costs more energy than the last — and the climb gets steepest on the top tiers — so keep mining.

Enchanting at the wormhole

Bring a charged item to the wormhole in the prison and toss it in. You'll be offered a choice of enchants, each showing its success and fail odds before you commit — rarer enchants are stronger but riskier. Then the wormhole rolls:

  • Success — the enchant (or an extra level of it) is added to your item.
  • Fail — the energy is spent and the attempt is marked on the item as a fail.

Either way, the attempt advances the item's gear level, so even a string of bad luck pushes you toward the cap. Your tooltip tracks both totals: Enchants (levels gained) and Fails. Mistakes aren't necessarily forever — there are rare items that can clean fails off a piece, and gang upgrades can tilt the wormhole odds in your favor.

Armor trims

Trims are rare drag-on upgrades for armor. Each trim has a name, a distinct look, and its own set of bonuses — anything from hitting harder in PvP, to taking less damage, to mining and looting perks — all listed on the trim item before you apply it. One trim per armor piece.

Trims found in the world include: Spectral, Wayfarer, Olympian, Emberfall, Raider, Foresight, Riftborn, Thanatos and Hephaestus — the last few tied to the server's toughest content. They turn up as rare loot from events, bosses and caches. If you want to swap one out, a Trim Remover (itself a rare drop) takes a trim off a piece and hands the trim back to you.

Pickaxes have their own separate trim line with mining-focused bonuses — see the mining pages for those.

Protecting your investment

Leveled gear is valuable, and PvP can take it from you: Defilers in the overworlds risk dropping gear pieces on death, and gear confiscated by guards is gone for good. Check the PvP Basics and Guards pages before you carry your best set into danger.
