Residual Knowledge

Residual Knowledge is a Shatter path perk for pickaxe prestige. It makes blocks you never personally touched still pay out XP, and nudges up the Ancient Energy they give.

At a glance

Path Shatter
Roll 3%–6%
Slots Any perk slot (P1, P5, P10)
Affects Blocks broken by Shatter that you had made no mining progress on

How it works

Mining XP is normally paid in proportion to how far you actually chewed through a block. A Shatter blast levels a whole cube around you, and almost every block in that cube is one you never swung at — so by default those blocks pay no XP at all, only ore.

Residual Knowledge gives them a small XP payout anyway. The rate is half your rolled value, measured against what a fully hand-mined block would have given:

Roll XP per untouched shattered block
3% 1.5% of a hand-mined block
4% 2%
5% 2.5%
6% 3%

Those blocks also pay slightly more energy — their energy rate is multiplied by 1 plus that same fraction, so a 6% roll is about 3% more energy on shattered blocks.

Notes

  • The numbers look tiny per block, and that is the point: a single Shatter can clear hundreds of blocks, so a fraction of a percent each adds up to real throughput.
  • It does not apply to Tartarus (P11) discharges. Those pay their own per-perk XP, energy and ore blend instead.
  • Blocks you had made progress on already pay by progress, and are unaffected.
  • XP that lands above your current level cap is discarded, so the perk does nothing while you are capped out.
