Pickaxe Prestige (Path of the Ancients)
Your Ancient Pickaxe prestiges on its own track, separate from your account prestige. Hold the pickaxe and run /pickprestige (alias /pickaxeprestige) to open the menu. Each pickaxe climbs individually, up to Prestige 11, and every prestige preserves the pickaxe's level, stored energy, and enchants.
The two requirements
Both costs are shown in the menu before you commit, so you always see exactly what's left:
- Mine your tier's ore with that specific pickaxe — only blocks broken by the pickaxe you're prestiging count.
- Pay Ancient Energy stored on the pickaxe itself. One of the server's two currencies.
Which ore counts depends on your pickaxe tier:
| Pickaxe | Counts |
|---|---|
| Wooden | Iron ore |
| Stone | Lapis |
| Golden | Redstone |
| Iron | Gold ore |
| Diamond | Diamond ore |
| Netherite | Ancient Debris |
Higher-tier ores also count toward lower-tier requirements, so a richer block always helps.
The exact numbers for every pickaxe tier at every prestige level are in the two tables below, blocks first and energy second.
Blocks to mine
These are lifetime totals for that one pickaxe, not per-step costs. The tally never resets when you prestige, so the P3 number counts every block that pickaxe has ever broken, including the ones that paid for P1 and P2.
| Prestige | Wooden | Stone | Golden | Iron | Diamond | Netherite |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P1 | 42,000 | 49,000 | 56,000 | 63,000 | 70,000 | 80,500 |
| P2 | 75,000 | 87,500 | 100,000 | 112,500 | 125,000 | 143,750 |
| P3 | 117,000 | 136,500 | 156,000 | 175,500 | 195,000 | 224,250 |
| P4 | 197,400 | 230,300 | 263,200 | 296,100 | 329,000 | 378,350 |
| P5 | 333,000 | 388,500 | 444,000 | 499,500 | 555,000 | 638,250 |
| P6 | 561,600 | 655,200 | 748,800 | 842,400 | 936,000 | 1,076,400 |
| P7 | 947,400 | 1,105,300 | 1,263,200 | 1,421,100 | 1,579,000 | 1,815,850 |
| P8 | 1,598,400 | 1,864,800 | 2,131,200 | 2,397,600 | 2,664,000 | 3,063,600 |
| P9 | 2,695,800 | 3,145,100 | 3,594,400 | 4,043,700 | 4,493,000 | 5,166,950 |
| P10 | 3,795,000 | 4,427,500 | 5,060,000 | 5,692,500 | 6,325,000 | 7,273,750 |
| P11 | 10,000,000 | 14,000,000 | 19,000,000 | 26,000,000 | 36,000,000 | 50,000,000 |
Lower-tier picks used to need almost nothing to prestige. The curve now tapers 10% per tier down from diamond: at any prestige level wood needs 60%, stone 70%, gold 80% and iron 90% of diamond's count, while netherite sits 15% above it. Tartarus Prestige (P11) ignores that taper entirely and runs a much steeper ladder of its own, from 10M on wood up to 50M on netherite. See Tartarus Prestige (P11) for the full endgame jump.
Some rarer blocks count as more than one toward the requirement:
| Block | Worth |
|---|---|
| Calcite | 2 blocks |
| Ancient Debris | 1.5 blocks |
| Emerald Ore | 1.25 blocks |
So 10M emerald counts as 12.5M, and a netherite pickaxe's P10 target of 7,273,750 is really 4,849,167 Ancient Debris or 3,636,875 Calcite. The menu's progress tracker flags which ores are boosted, so you know where to mine. See The Mines and the Calcite Caverns for where those blocks live.
Ancient Energy to pay
Unlike the block count, energy is a per-step price. It is taken out of the energy stored on the pickaxe the moment you prestige, and whatever is left over stays banked on the pick. You need the whole amount sitting in that one pickaxe at once, so a netherite P10 means banking 900M before you can press the button.
| Prestige | Wooden | Stone | Golden | Iron | Diamond | Netherite |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P1 | 5M | 5M | 5M | 5M | 10M | 45M |
| P2 | 5M | 5M | 5M | 10M | 20M | 75M |
| P3 | 5M | 5M | 10M | 15M | 30M | 120M |
| P4 | 5M | 5M | 10M | 20M | 45M | 180M |
| P5 | 5M | 10M | 15M | 30M | 65M | 255M |
| P6 | 5M | 10M | 25M | 40M | 85M | 345M |
| P7 | 10M | 15M | 30M | 55M | 115M | 450M |
| P8 | 10M | 20M | 40M | 65M | 145M | 570M |
| P9 | 10M | 25M | 50M | 85M | 180M | 720M |
| P10 | 15M | 30M | 60M | 105M | 225M | 900M |
| P11 | 220M | 435M | 870M | 1.525B | 3.265B | 13.05B |
| P1 to P11 total | 295M | 565M | 1.12B | 1.955B | 4.185B | 16.71B |
Every tier prices off the same base ladder with a flat multiplier: wood 0.05x, stone 0.1x, gold 0.2x, iron 0.35x, diamond 0.75x, netherite 3x, rounded to the nearest 5M. That rounding is why the cheapest tiers bottom out at 5M a step. P11 is a jump of a different order because its base is 4.35B before the tier multiplier is applied.
Rerolls & respecs now cost energy
In Season 2, rerolling or respeccing a pickaxe spends Ancient Energy pulled from your inventory (not the pickaxe), on top of the usual token. The cost scales with the pickaxe's prestige level — roughly 10M at P1 up to 90M at P11 — and respecs cost double. Tokens still drop and stack as before; the energy is an extra end-game sink. Tokens can also turn up in Rift Shop & Caches. What you actually reroll and respec — paths, perks, and stats — is covered in Pickaxe Prestige Rewards.
Season 2 also fixed a bug where applying a Perk Swap, Stat Swap, or Path Respec token could fail with "couldn't find that pickaxe in your inventory". The token now reliably finds your live pickaxe.
Version history
v3.0.0
- Pickaxe prestige energy costs have been cut on wood, stone, gold, iron and diamond pickaxes. A first prestige now costs 10M on diamond and 5M on iron, down from 45M and 30M.
- The first five prestige steps cost less at every tier. Netherite prestige costs are unchanged past the fifth step.
- Tartarus Prestige (P11) no longer costs the same 50M mined ore on every tier. It now needs 10M on wood, 14M on stone, 19M on gold, 26M on iron, 36M on diamond and 50M on netherite.
v2.0.0
- Pickaxe prestige block and energy requirements rebalanced — lower-tier picks now taper 10% per tier from diamond (wood 60% / stone 70% / gold 80% / iron 90%) instead of being trivially cheap.
- Tartarus Prestige (P11) now costs a flat 50M blocks on every pickaxe tier.
- Rarer ores count as more than one block: Calcite x2, Ancient Debris x1.5, Emerald Ore x1.25.
- Rerolling or respeccing a pickaxe now spends Ancient Energy too (~10M at P1 up to ~90M at P11; respecs double), on top of the token.
- Fixed perk/stat swaps and path respecs failing to find your pickaxe.
