The Tartarus Rift

The Tartarus Rift is a recurring timed mining competition. Everyone drops in with the same standardized kit, races to mine the most valuable ore across three waves, and walks out with Rift Marks — a currency you spend on permanent Rift upgrades and exclusive Rift Caches.

The Rift unlocks once the community completes Fund II (see /fund).

Schedule and joining

  • A rift opens roughly every 2 hours. Chat warns you 5 minutes ahead, then the queue opens with a countdown.
  • Join with /rift join during the queue window. You must be in a safe zone with a completely empty inventory (armor and offhand included) — the event provides all your gear. The queue holds up to 40 players.
  • You can join from anywhere on the network — Forgotten Polis and Ancient Roads players are transferred over automatically.
  • /rift leave exits the queue or the event. /rift opens the Rift menu with all of this in one place.

How the event works

When the queue ends, everyone is teleported into the rift mine and given a Rift Pickaxe and boots (upgraded by your skill tree — see below). The event runs as 3 waves of 90 seconds of mining, with a short pause between waves while a completely fresh mine is prepared.

Mine ore to earn points — higher tiers are worth more:

Block Points
Stone 1
Coal 2
Iron 3
Gold 4
Lapis 5
Redstone 6
Diamond 7
Emerald 8

Deepslate variants are worth 1 extra point, and richer ores appear far more often the deeper you dig — diving pays off.

Special blocks

The mine is seeded with special blocks (the in-game Rift guide covers these too):

  • Cascading Vein — instantly mines a 5×5 up to 11×11 cube of blocks. If the blast catches other special blocks, they trigger too — chain reactions! More common deeper.
  • Titan's Hoard — a massive point bonus: 10× the best ore at your depth, with a minimum of 100 bonus points. More common deeper.
  • Echo Stone — adds +5 minutes to your Momentum enchant timer. Weighted toward the top layers.
  • Forgemark — levels up a random enchant on your Rift Pickaxe by 1. Very rare.

A live scoreboard tracks the standings during the event.

Rewards

When the rift closes, your points convert to Rift Marks, and the top three are broadcast server-wide. Rift Prestige increases your Mark earnings by 5% per prestige level.

Energy, money, and ore shards accumulated inside the rift are held for you — collect them afterward with /rift claim.

Check your balance with /rift tokens and the season leaderboard with /rift top.

Spending Rift Marks

Rift Caches (/rift shop)

Cache Cost
Tier I — Rift Cache 250,000 Rift Marks
Tier II — Greater Rift Cache 500,000 Rift Marks
Tier III — Tartarus Rift Cache 1,000,000 Rift Marks

Each cache pays out a handful of random rewards — boosters, enchant dust, mystery enchant orbs, Ancient Energy, shards, flares, rerolls (richer pools at higher tiers, including Godly Contraband at Tier III) — plus a chance at the jackpot pool of Rift exclusives: the Riftborn armor trim, the Coreheart pickaxe trim, Excavator offhand tiers I–III, the Echo Sigil, and — Tier III only — the Tartarus Reroll and the ultra-rare Tartarus Sigil. Higher cache tiers have a better shot at the jackpot, and jackpot pulls are announced server-wide.

Skill tree

The Rift skill tree (in the /rift menu) sells permanent upgrades that apply every time you enter:

  • Quickened Strike → Riftcharge — mining speed boosts
  • Greed's Grasp → Avarice — chances to double the points from a block (Avarice also boosts Titan's Hoard payouts)
  • Arcane Infusion → Exceptional Enchants → Calcite Ascendance — your Rift Pickaxe spawns with extra enchant levels, can exceed normal caps, and can ascend maxed enchants to Calcite forms
  • Cascade Surge → Echoing Detonator — bigger and more reliable Cascading Veins
  • Bloodline Echo → Ancestral Bloodline — your Rift Pickaxe spawns with pickaxe-prestige stats and perks
  • Riftwalker set — spawn wearing Riftborn-trimmed armor pieces
  • Iron Gears → Coiled Springs → Wings of the Ancients — boot upgrades, capped by the chase node that grants flight inside the rift (requires Rift Prestige 10)

At the bottom sits Rift Prestige: once you own every node you can reach, you can reset the tree for a permanent boost to your Rift Mark earnings (increased by 5% per prestige level), with half your spent Marks refunded. Some of the strongest nodes require Rift Prestige levels to unlock — Wings of the Ancients needs Rift Prestige 10.
