Cluster Bomb

Cluster Bomb is a Shatter path perk for pickaxe prestige. After a Shatter goes off, it has a chance to detonate a second, much wider blast on the same block.

At a glance

Path Shatter
Roll 6%–10% chance
Slots Any perk slot (P1, P5, P10)
Triggers on A Shatter that actually broke at least one block

How it works

Every time a Shatter breaks blocks, Cluster Bomb rolls its chance. On a hit, it fires one more Shatter on the same block with +3 radius on top of whatever radius the original had, and you get a chat line telling you how many blocks it broke.

Ten staggered explosion bursts pop around the area over half a second. Those are decoration only. Every block was already broken by the single wider blast. The in-game description still words this as "proc Shatter 10 additional times within 3 blocks"; the volume is the same, it is just delivered in one pass instead of ten.

Because radius grows the blast cubically, +3 radius is a large jump. A radius-4 Shatter covers 729 blocks; the radius-7 Cluster Bomb that follows it covers 3,375.

What sets it off

What does not set it off

  • Another Cluster Bomb. The follow-up blast cannot chain into a third one.
  • Tartarus (P11) discharges. Excluded on purpose — a discharge is paid out in around 120 separate batches, and rolling Cluster Bomb on each one was firing roughly ten extra full Shatters per discharge.

Notes

  • Core Breach does not stack onto a Cluster Bomb blast, for the same anti-chain reason.
  • Shatterstorm also skips Cluster Bomb blasts, so the two perks never multiply into one another.
