Erebus Crates
An Erebus Crate is the payout for sealing an Erebus Tear. Three of them fall out of the sky like meteorites when the Tearkeeper dies, landing near the breach on ground you can stand on.
They are open to anyone. Landing the killing blow gives you no claim on them, and neither does touching one first. That's the design, not a hole in it. The swoop-in steal is what gives the mine a recurring reason to fight.
Cracking one open
A crate lands as a real chest block you have to mine open, the same way a GKit block works:
- Breaking one takes 4 seconds of continuous mining.
- Taking damage resets your progress. So does looking away. Contesting a crate means landing a hit on the other miner, not winning a click race.
- Several players can mine the same crate at once, each with their own progress bar. The first to finish takes everything in it — everyone else's progress is wasted.
- An unclaimed crate collapses after 90 seconds, with warnings in chat at 30 and 10 seconds. The block it replaced is put back when it goes.
Everything the crate held is announced in chat the moment it's broken, so the whole server sees what you walked off with.
Where the loot goes
Contents go straight to whoever broke the crate. Anything that won't fit bursts onto the floor at their feet and stays theirs for 30 seconds — after that it's free for anyone to take, so a full inventory doesn't hand your haul to the player who lost the race.
What's inside
Every crate pays three things:
- Tier-matched contraband: the bulk reward, and roughly half of everything a crate rolls.
- The spoils of the tear's own shades and wraiths: a heap of boss essence, Motes of the Ancients and enchant dust, paid as though you'd farmed a small army of that tier by hand.
- The rare table, which is where the chase lives.
Notable things only a crate pays:
- The Veil of Erebus and Requiem Powder, two field consumables that change how shades and wraiths deal with you.
- The Bound Shade offhand, in three tiers.
- Gravecall, one of the Aetheric jewels.
- Nyx's Shroud, the PvP armour trim — crates are its only source.
- Uber summoning keys, from a high enough tear, always for that tear's mark.
Tier matters
Every tear tier has its own crate loot table. A higher tier tear pays a richer crate, rolls it more times (a couple of rolls at the bottom of the ladder, closer to ten at the top), and unlocks entries the lower tiers never pay at all. The rolls ramp deliberately, so nothing already in the pool ever gets rarer as you climb.
One exception is worth knowing: the Bound Shade tiers replace each other rather than accumulating. Exactly one tier sits in any table, so a top-tier tear cannot pay a Tier I shade at any odds.
Browse the exact per-tier tables in /loot under Events & World Drops — a tier's table shows up there once you've seen it.
