Mining Speed

Mining is slower this season, and that's by design. A fresh, unenchanted pickaxe now takes noticeably longer to break each block. The base break time was raised to 2000ms per block (up from 1500ms). Insta-mining isn't the default anymore; it's something you build toward by stacking speed sources.

How break time is calculated

Break time is the base time divided by your total speed multiplier, and that multiplier is built in two layers:

speed = pickaxe tier base x (1 + all increased Mining Speed) x any more multipliers

Every increased Mining Speed source now pools into a single additive total instead of multiplying against each other. Three sources worth 20% each are one 60% increase, not three separate multipliers stacked on top of one another. What feeds that pool:

  • Efficiency and Prismatic Efficiency: the classic pickaxe enchants.
  • Momentum: speed that ramps the longer you keep mining, and decays when you stop.
  • Pickaxe prestige Mining Speed: the base stat from Pickaxe Prestige.
  • Pickaxe and armour trims: every trim line that reads increased mining speed.
  • Hermes' Pace: the mining-speed armour enchant.
  • Orb of Moros implicits, of Haste jewels and rift pickaxe upgrades.
  • Emberfall, in meteorite context only.

The only more multiplier left is the Lamia set's Molt burst, which stacks on top of the pool while it's active. Everything else is in the pool.

Read the wording: this is the same schema the rest of the server uses. Increased is additive and shares one pool; more is its own multiplier. A line that reads increased mining speed now genuinely stacks additively with every other increased line, instead of quietly multiplying behind the scenes.

In practice that flattens the top end: piling on a tenth speed source is worth much less than it used to be, and Efficiency in particular no longer dwarfs everything else, so momentum, trims, jewels and implicits are worth building.

/pickbuffs reports the real number the server uses, broken down by source, along with your current effective break time per block.

Mining above your tier

The ore you're swinging at matters as much as your speed. Pickaxes are built to break a normal range of ore tiers:

  • One tier up: minable, but slower. Reaching one tier above your pickaxe's range applies a tier-up slow (roughly 1.8x the break time).
  • Far above your tier: a heavy slow penalty kicks in rather than the swing failing outright. Ores well beyond your range are effectively unmineable until you upgrade.

So if mining suddenly feels like wading through treacle, check whether you've wandered into ore your pickaxe and gear aren't ready for — that's the above-tier penalty, not a bug.

The takeaway

Base mining is a starting line, not a finished tool. Lean on enchants, prestige stats, and armour to earn your speed back. See Mining for how the whole loop fits together.

Version history

v3.0.0

  • Every increased Mining Speed source now sums into one additive pool instead of multiplying together — Efficiency, Prismatic Efficiency, Momentum, pickaxe prestige, pickaxe and armour trims, Hermes' Pace, Orb of Moros, jewels and rift pickaxe upgrades all share it.
  • The Lamia set's Molt burst is now the only more Mining Speed multiplier, and stacks on top of the pool.
  • The of Haste jewel now actually speeds up mining.
  • /pickbuffs now reports the same mining speed number the server actually uses.

v2.0.0

  • Base mining is now slower across the board — a fresh, unenchanted pickaxe takes noticeably longer per block, so Efficiency, Momentum, Prismatic Efficiency and the new Hermes' Pace armour enchant matter again.
