Quests

Quests are your guided tour through everything Ancients has to offer. Open the menu with /quests (alias /quest) and the tracks screen lays out every quest line at once in a compact 3-row menu, each with its own difficulty badge and your current progress.

There's nothing to turn in — all quest progress is tracked automatically as you play. Mine the ore, slay the shade, make the trade, and the step ticks over on its own.

How tracks open

Path of the Ancients is open from the moment you join — it's the tutorial and the spine of your first few hours.

Every other track opens one of two ways:

  • Talk to its guide NPC at spawn. Each guide unlocks their line by hand and gives you their lore (and a one-time gift) while they're at it.
  • Just play. A track also unlocks the first time you do something it tracks — your first Hunter Point opens The Hunt, your first rift run opens Echoes of the Rift, and so on. Whatever you'd already done before it opened is credited retroactively.

Side tracks stay shut during the tutorial, so a brand-new player's first coal block can't bury the golden path under a four-figure objective. They open on your first qualifying action once you're out.

Each line carries a difficulty badge so you know what to tackle when:

Badge Meaning
Starter New here? A great place to begin.
Core Progression The backbone of a normal playthrough.
Advanced Not a starter line — gear up first.
Endgame For well-established players.

Individual late-game steps inside a line are flagged too, so even within a Starter or Core line you can tell at a glance which steps are fresh-start friendly and which are best saved for later.

The quest lines

See The Quest Lines for a step-by-step breakdown of each one.

Line Theme Difficulty
Path of the Ancients The main line — your guided onboarding Starter
Coffers of the Ancients Trading and the economy Core Progression
The Deepening Mining mastery, jewels and the deep veins Core Progression
The Long Game AFK points, the AFK shop and idle upgrades Core Progression
The Hunt Shades, wraiths, Hunter Points and the bronze construct Advanced
Champions of the Old Games Skywars, KOTH and the contested outposts Advanced
Echoes of the Rift The Tartarus Rift Advanced
Wounds of Erebus Erebus Tears and what comes out of them Advanced

The quest bossbar

A bossbar tracks whatever you're working on. During the tutorial it stays pinned to Path of the Ancients rather than jumping to a side track you happened to tick — so the golden path is always the thing on screen.

When you finish a step, both the chat line and the popup lead with your next objective in bold, not the one you just cleared.

Chat titles at the finish line

Several lines reward a chat title when you complete them — collectible flair you can equip from Cosmetics:

  • Path of the Ancients — Pathfinder
  • Echoes of the Rift — Riftwalker
  • Wounds of Erebus — Breachwarden

Quest gifts are one per connection

Quest step rewards and guide-NPC gifts are one per IP address. If the same gift was already claimed by another account on your connection, yours is refused — and left armed, not consumed, so nothing is lost. Accounts formally paired with /linkaccount are exempt. The check is shared across both servers.

New here? Start with Welcome to Ancients, then open /quests and follow Path of the Ancients.

Version history

v3.0.0

  • Quest tracks now unlock automatically the first time you play their content. Guide NPCs still unlock them by hand and keep their lore.
  • The quest tracks screen is now a compact 3 row menu.
  • Side quest tracks no longer unlock during the tutorial — they open on your first qualifying action once it's done.
  • The quest bossbar now stays pinned to Path of the Ancients for the whole tutorial.
  • The quest complete message and popup now lead with your next objective instead of the one you just finished.
  • Added Wounds of Erebus, unlocked by the new Nyx guide at spawn.
  • Bedrock & Brimstone was folded into The Deepening as its late-game half.
  • Removed the Depths of Tartarus quest chain and the Warden Mortis quest guide along with dungeons.
  • Quest NPC gifts are now one per IP, matching quest step rewards. Linked accounts are exempt, and the check is shared across both servers.
  • The Leave the Tutorial quest no longer grants the Awakened title. It still pays 250,000 Ancient Energy.

v2.0.0

  • Every quest line is now open from the start — lines no longer unlock by finishing other lines.
  • The quest menu was rebuilt to show all lines at once, each with a difficulty badge (Starter / Core / Advanced / Endgame) and live progress.
  • Added early main-line steps for the Rental Yard — open it, then rent a pickaxe or list one of your own.
  • Extended The Hunt with new high-end goals.
