King of the Hill (KOTH)

King of the Hill is a twice-daily PvP showdown in its own arena. One player has to stand on the hill and hold it — everyone else's job is to stop them. Whoever completes the capture walks away with the KOTH Lootbag.

When it runs

KOTH runs twice a day — normally at 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM Pacific time (staff can shift an individual day's slots, so treat the countdowns as the source of truth). Chat countdowns begin 15 minutes before each event ("KOTH starts in 15m! Do /warp koth!") and repeat down to the final seconds. When the event opens, head to the arena with /warp koth.

Early in a season, KOTH may not be running yet — some events switch on as the community progresses.

Gear tiers

Every KOTH has a gear tier, announced for the event. Only armor and weapons of that tier or lower are allowed:

Tier Allowed
Chain Chain armor, wood weapons
Gold Gold gear and weapons or lower
Iron Iron gear and weapons or lower
Diamond Diamond gear and weapons or lower
Netherite Netherite gear and weapons or lower

The tier is picked per event (it can be anything up to what the current level cap supports), so a Chain KOTH levels the playing field while a Netherite KOTH is a full-power brawl. Gear above the tier is blocked at the door, and anything over-tier you equip inside is automatically unequipped.

Capturing the hill

  • Stand on the hill alone to start capping. While the hill is contested (more than one player on it), nobody can begin a capture.
  • Once a capture starts, the capper must hold the hill for 10 minutes. Chat announces who is capping and broadcasts the remaining time as it ticks down.
  • If the capper steps off (or gets killed or knocked off), the capture resets and the hill is up for grabs again.
  • The moment the timer completes, the event ends and the capper is crowned.

Death rules

Dying at KOTH stings, but you keep your items:

  • You do not drop your inventory when you die in the arena (a carried KOTH Lootbag is the one exception — that drops where you fall).
  • You are locked out for the rest of that event — no re-entry until the next KOTH starts.
  • The combat gear you died with is also locked out for the rest of the event, so you can't hand your kit to a teammate to keep fighting with it.
  • You can't drop items in the arena, and some commands are blocked while you're there.

Anonymity

Inside the arena, players outside your own gang appear disguised — scrambled names and randomized skins. You can recognize your gangmates, but everyone else is a mystery.

Also note: while your gang is participating in a KOTH, gang membership changes (kicking, benching, joining, disbanding) are locked until the event ends.

The KOTH Lootbag

The winner receives the KOTH Lootbag — right-click it in a safe zone to open. It contains:

Guaranteed rewards, including:

  • The exclusive [K.O.T.H.] chat title
  • 5,000,000 Ancient Energy
  • A pile of enchant dust, an enchant eraser, and nametags

Plus 7 random items from the KOTH loot pool, which includes things like the Olympian armor trim, mystery enchant orbs, meteor and meteorite-shower flares, g-kit flares, booster boxes (up to epic), blackscroll and pickaxe-prestige bundles, home/vault expansions, perk swaps, stat rerolls, armor/weapon expander boxes, and — if you're lucky — Fortune's Dice.
