Currencies
Ancients runs on three main currencies. Each one is earned differently and buys different things — here's the quick map.
Money ($)
Money is your cash balance. Check it with /bal, see the richest players with /baltop, and send some to a friend with /pay <player> <amount>.
How you earn it: mostly by mining. Ores you break are sold automatically and paid out as Money Notes — physical banknotes that stack in your inventory. Right-click a note in a safe zone to claim it into your balance. You can also earn money by selling items to other players on the Auction House (/ah).
What it buys:
- Gear, tools, food, and building blocks at
/shop - Contributions to the Community Fund (
/fund) - Items other players list on the Auction House (
/ah) - Bids on rare loot in the Black Market Auction House (
/bah)
Need cash in item form? /withdraw <amount|all> (in a safe zone) turns balance back into a Money Note — handy for trades.
Ancient Energy
Ancient Energy is the enchanting fuel. As you mine, energy charges directly into the pickaxe you're holding — watch its stored total grow on the item itself. Energy also turns up as physical energy stacks from contraband and other rewards.
What it does:
- Powers the Wormhole: items you throw in spend their stored energy to level up and roll enchants (see The Wormhole).
- Charges certain special items, like enchant orbs.
Moving it around:
/extract <amount|all>while holding a charged item pulls energy out as physical Ancient Energy stacks. Extracting is free in a safe zone; outside one, a tax is deducted — it starts at 20% on the first rank and shrinks as you rank up, down to 5% at the highest rank./combinemerges all the energy stacks in your inventory into one tidy stack.
Obols
Obols are the premium currency. Check your balance with /obols and send them with /obols pay <player> <amount>.
How you earn them:
- Wear the Ancients server tag on your Discord profile (link your account first with
/link): you accrue 2 Obols per hour, holding up to 48 unclaimed — collect with/claimtag. - Boost the Ancients Discord: 500 Obols per boost, claimed with
/claimboost. Boosters also get the Tartarus Patron title and 5% more XP and energy while the boost is active. - Lead a top gang: at the end of each week (except the season's final week), the top three gangs on the gang leaderboard earn an Obol payout, paid to the gang leader.
- Season Pass rewards include Obols on some tiers.
