Thanatos — Ancients Wiki

A skeletal warlord wreathed in cursed flame and shadow. Thanatos is a hard fight — the second-toughest boss on the server (Hephaestus tops him).

Summoning

Key: Thanatos' Idol — forged automatically when you collect 64 Essence of Thanatos, which drops from high-tier shades, wraiths and caravans. Also sold in the Boss Shop for 10,000 Hunter Points.
Requirement: Hunter rank T5 (/hunter).
Summon at his altar via /boss and enter the portal with your party.

Thanatos fights in three phases — the lower his health, the faster and meaner he gets, and the more of his kit he uses.

Ashen Collapse (whole fight) — red circles bloom across the floor and detonate after a beat. Get out of the circles.
Death runes — glowing runes appear on the arena floor and detonate on anyone who steps close. They show up more and more often as the fight goes on. Watch your footing.
Soul Tether (can come at any point once he's warmed up) — he chains every fighter with a soul tether and becomes untouchable while the tethers hold. The tethers slowly wither everyone bound; break line of sight — put a pillar between yourself and him. Any one player breaking theirs frees the whole group and stuns the boss. Let it run its course instead and the link detonates: heavy damage, withering, and a slow — with no stun window.
Infernal Pursuit (later phases) — he locks onto whoever is hurting him most and telegraphs a charging dash. Sidestep it and he stumbles, wide open.
Death Sentence (final phase) — a roar, then a massive dark ring grows around him for about 3 seconds. Anyone still inside when it lands is killed outright. Run.
Enrage (final phase) — every fighter he kills restores a slice of his health. Stay alive; deaths literally feed him.

All loot goes to the summoner. Typical haul per kill (rarities approximate):

Most common: netherite scrap (in handfuls), Enchant Dust, Enchant Erasers, Motes of the Ancients
Uncommon: Mystery Enchant Orbs, the Quantum Entangler, epic booster boxes, a server-wide XP booster, the overcharge crystal, gkit level-up boxes, Condensed Crude Gold/Diamond, pickaxe stat/perk re-rolls
Rare: Golden Tickets, Fortune's Dice, armor/weapon slot expanders, a GKit Mystery Flare, the Wrath of Thanatos offhand line (three tiers — each tier rarer than the last)
Very rare: a max-level Lucky exceptional orb, the ancient mannequin
Signature (rarest): the Thanatos Trim (armor trim), plus ultra-rare jackpots — an enchant catalyst, a mining bot, or a gkit beacon box

Killing him also pays the summoner 4,000 Hunter Points. Chasing the trim? Track it on the RNG Meter (/rngmeter).
