AncientsWiki

Echidna is the Moderate boss — the step up from Lamia, and your first real test of keeping your footing while the floor turns against you.

Summoning her

You summon Echidna with Echidna's Coil, forged from 64 Essence of Echidna. That essence drops from mid-tier hunts (T3–T4), or you can buy the Coil outright from the Boss Shop for 7,500 Hunter Points.

Echidna unlocks at Community Fund tier II, and that is the only gate. The old level and prestige requirements are gone, so once the fund opens her, anyone holding a Coil can summon. See Summoning a Boss for the altar and the full ritual.

Her altar also takes Echidna's Brood Knot, the separate Uber key that summons Uber Echidna at Fund tier V.

The fight

Echidna is a venom-and-zone-control fight — a serpent matron who poisons the arena, webs the unwary in place, and seals herself in a brood-cocoon to test whether you can clear the room before time runs out. Most of her damage is telegraphed on the floor, so watch your feet and keep moving. She's a serious step up from Lamia, and a careless player will go down fast.

Like every boss she slowly regenerates when left alone, can't be slowed, and can't be stun-locked. See Boss Fight Mechanics for the shared rules. Her abilities now bite through armour rather than being shredded down to a tickle, so treat the telegraphs with respect. Go down and you respawn at her altar, ready to walk back in with another key. The rest she keeps to herself; learning her rhythm is half the fight.

Loot

Echidna's drop table was rebuilt for the new map. Felling her can yield exceptional orbs, enchant-orb pulls, boosters, crafting materials like Motes of Ancients and Enchant Dust, and the occasional rare utility item. Her signature reward is Echidna's Strand, a grappling trinket, also catalogued on the Special Items page.

She is also the home of the Broodborn armour and pickaxe trims — the pair formerly called Surgeborn, which had no source of their own until now. The pickaxe half is the rarer of the two, and the rarest thing in her table full stop.

Her death broadcast and the sidebar now report the damage you actually dealt, not the inflated number before her damage reduction.

Her rare drops feed the RNG Meter, so dry streaks edge you toward a guaranteed reward.

The Quantum Entangler, condensed crude ore, Fortune's Dice, and slot expanders are no longer in Echidna's table. The Entangler is now exclusive to the Rift, and condensed ore was removed from the boss pool in the rebuild.

Killing Echidna pays the summoner 1,500 Hunter Points, on top of the loot. If you're chasing the harder fights next, Thanatos is the tier above, and Uber Echidna is the same serpent with a bigger kit and a table of her own.

Version history

v3.0.0

  • Echidna is now gated by Community Fund tier II alone. The Level 60 requirement is gone.
  • She drops the Broodborn armour and pickaxe trims (renamed from Surgeborn), which previously had no source.
  • Her death broadcast and sidebar now report the damage you actually dealt instead of the number before damage reduction.
  • Her abilities no longer lose most of their damage to armour.
  • Dying to her now respawns you at her altar instead of at spawn.
  • Added Uber Echidna, summoned at the same altar with Echidna's Brood Knot from Fund tier V.

v2.0.0

  • Echidna now requires Level 60+ to summon, replacing the old Hunter T3 gate.
  • Echidna no longer drops Condensed Crude Ore or the Quantum Entangler. The Entangler is now Rift-exclusive.
  • Loot table rebuilt for the new map: Momentum orb, Mystery Godly Orb, rare booster box, Ancient Mannequin, motes and dust, and the signature Echidna's Strand.
  • Fixed Echidna paying out Lamia's Hunter Points — she now correctly awards 1,500.
  • Echidna now slowly regenerates when left alone, can't be slowed, and can't be stun-locked (shared boss changes).
