Hephaestus

The tyrant of the forge — a brute fueled by molten fury. Hephaestus is rated Very Hard, the hardest of the normal bosses, a clear step above Thanatos, and he hits harder in melee than any other boss. Only the Uber bosses sit above him. Bring your best gear and a party that listens.

Summoning

  • Key: Hephaestus' Sigil — forged from 64 Essence of Hephaestus, which only the very top hunts carry: the highest-tier shades and wraiths. Also sold in the Boss Shop for 20,000 Hunter Points.
  • Requirement: Community Fund tier IV — one tier earlier than before, and the only gate. The Prestige II and Level 102 requirements have been removed.
  • Summon at his altar and enter the portal with your party. See Summoning a Boss for the full ritual.
  • His altar also takes Hephaestus' Unquenched Brand, the separate Uber key that calls Uber Hephaestus from Fund tier V.

The Fight

Face-tanking Hephaestus is not a plan — his whole kit revolves around fire and area denial. In Season 2 he fights unpredictably: he no longer runs a fixed pattern, picking abilities at random and casting faster as his health drops. He turns the arena into a field of forge-fire and molten hazards, and the final phase only gets meaner. Read his telegraphs, keep moving, and lean on Boss Fight Mechanics for the fundamentals — the rest is for your party to figure out on the altar floor.

A few fair-play notes: he regenerates when left alone, can't be slowed, and can't be stun-locked by rapid fire — so keep the pressure steady rather than relying on crowd control. His abilities now bite through armour instead of being shredded down to a tickle, which makes his telegraphs genuinely lethal in a way face-tanking used to survive. And don't bunch up: stacking too tightly has consequences. Die and you respawn at his altar.

Drops

The richest boss table on the server — all of it to the summoner. See Boss Loot & Drop Announcements for how the haul is rolled and announced.

Expect a heavy bulk haul (the biggest netherite scrap piles of any boss, plus crafting and enchanting materials), augment items like a Mystery Godly Enchant Orb (see Enchant Orbs), boosters and mystery boxes, and a chance at his signature Hephaestus's Spark offhand (spark_t1/t2/t3, each tier rarer than the last). Layered on top is a chase pool — the Hephaestus armor trim is among the rarest finds in Tartarus, left for the worthy to uncover.

He is now also the only source of the Hephaestus weapon trim, which pairs with his armour set and carries a full set ability of its own, Forgeheat. It is rarer than the armour trim — the single rarest pull in his table.

Killing him also pays the summoner 10,000 Hunter Points — half the price of his own key. Chasing the trim? Track it on the RNG Meter. New to the boss roster? Start at the Bosses Overview — or step up to Uber Hephaestus, the only source of the Emberflow Aetheric jewel.

Version history

v3.0.0

  • Hephaestus now unlocks at Community Fund tier IV, one tier earlier than before, and the Prestige II / Level 102 requirement is gone.
  • He drops the new Hephaestus weapon trim, which pairs with the Hephaestus armour set and has a full set ability of its own, Forgeheat.
  • His abilities no longer lose most of their damage to armour.
  • Dying to him now respawns you at his altar instead of at spawn.
  • Added Uber Hephaestus, summoned at the same altar with Hephaestus' Unquenched Brand from Fund tier V.
  • Talos no longer takes a completion penalty on Hephaestus — he is no longer harder for it to finish than the easier bosses.

v2.0.0

  • Summon now requires Player Prestige II and Level 102, replacing the old Hunter T8 gate.
  • He now fights unpredictably — random ability selection instead of a fixed rotation, and faster casts as his health drops.
  • His signature fire-wall phase was reworked from fixed bursts into a recurring, less-frequent threat that escalates as the fight goes on.
  • Fixed a visual bug that could give away his position during one of his phases.
  • He no longer drops Condensed Crude Ore, and his loot was refreshed and made more rewarding.
  • He now slowly regenerates when left alone, can't be slowed, and can no longer be stun-locked by rapid fire.
