Boosters are consumable items that multiply what you earn from mining for a limited time. Right-click a booster to activate it — the item is consumed and the boost starts ticking immediately. Check what you have running at any time with /boosters.

This section covers the four booster types, how personal and global boosters differ, the way bonuses stack, queueing and pausing, the Overcharge Crystal, and where boosters come from.

The four booster types

Type What it boosts
XP Mining XP
Energy Ancient Energy earned from mining (one of the server's currencies)
Ore Ore drop amounts from mining (crude ore is not affected)
Shard Shard drop chance from mining

Each booster has a strength (shown on the item, e.g. x1.5 or x2) and a duration. Your boosters follow you everywhere on the network — switching areas never loses them or their remaining time. Personal timers only count down while you're online, so logging off banks whatever time is left; global boosters run on a real-time clock.

Every booster now ships with custom animated art — a glowing energy crystal coloured by what it boosts, with an orbiting ring on global boosters.

Personal vs global

  • Personal boosters affect only you.
  • Global boosters affect everyone online when activated. Using one is announced to the whole network and a boss bar tracks the time remaining. If a global of the same strength is already running, yours extends it instead of being wasted; if a different strength is running, you're blocked until it expires — so nothing gets overwritten.

How boosters stack

All your active bonuses of one type — your personal booster, any global booster, and any mining-competition reward boost — are added together into one pool. A x1.5 personal booster running alongside a x2 global booster gives x2.5 in total: the bonuses add up rather than multiply.

Two effects sit on top of that pool as separate multiplicative layers:

  • Discord boost — boosting the Ancients Discord with a linked account gives 5% more XP and Ancient Energy while it lasts.
  • Fate Card effects — temporary buffs (and debuffs) drawn from Fate Cards apply as their own independent layer.

Queueing — boosters never burn in parallel

If you activate several personal boosters of the same type, only the strongest one ticks down; the rest are frozen and queued until it runs out. Activating a booster identical in strength to one already running simply adds its duration on. You never waste a booster by activating it early.

Pausing

You can stop a booster's timer and bank the remaining time:

  • /pausebooster <exp|energy|ore|shard|all> — pause a booster type.
  • /unpausebooster — resume paused boosters.

Boosters also pause automatically when it would be unfair for them to drain: entering Asphodel Meadows (the AFK world) or the Tartarus Rift pauses your personal boosters, and they resume on their own when you leave. There's also a brief restriction on pausing right after mining meteorite blocks (unless you're standing in a safe zone). Anything you paused manually stays paused.

Overcharge Crystal

Keep an Overcharge Crystal in your inventory and the next booster you activate has its duration doubled — the crystal is consumed automatically and the activation message confirms it was applied.

Where boosters come from

  • Booster Boxes — Common (x1.25), Rare (x1.5) and Epic (x1.75) Booster Boxes each contain a 30-minute personal booster of a random type. They turn up in lootboxes and crates, rift caches, and many event reward tables.
  • Global Booster Box — contains a x2 global booster.
  • Mining competitions — top placements earn temporary boost rewards that are added into the same pool as your own boosters.
  • The store — the Global Boosters category in the Obol Store sells x2 global boosters for Obols.

You'll also meet boosters out in the world — the Oracle and event rewards both deal them out.

Version history

v2.0.0

  • All booster durations cut from 60 to 30 minutes — every personal and global booster now lasts half as long.
  • Booster Boxes rebalanced: Common is now x1.25 (was x1.5), Rare x1.5 (was x2), and Epic x1.75 (was x2.5).
  • Boosters now auto-pause when you enter Asphodel Meadows (the AFK world) and resume when you leave.
  • Every booster now has custom animated art — a glowing energy crystal coloured by what it boosts, with an orbiting ring on global boosters.
