The Wormhole

The Wormhole is the swirling portal near spawn, and it's where all enchanting happens on Ancients. There's no enchant table; instead you charge an item with Ancient Energy, feed it to the void, and hope it comes back stronger.

How enchanting works

  1. Charge your item. Mining fills your pickaxe with stored Ancient Energy automatically. The item's tooltip shows how much it's holding and how much the next level needs.
  2. Throw it in. Drop the item (default Q) into the Wormhole. With enough stored energy, it's pulled in.
  3. Pick an enchant. Floating options appear above the portal, each showing its name, level, and odds. For example 72% ✓ 28% ✗. Click the one you want.
  4. Sweat the roll. On a success, your item absorbs the enchant and gains a level. On a failure, the item comes back exactly as it went in — same level, same enchants, no fail counter, no wasted enchant slot. The only thing a fail costs you is the energy (and any dust) you put into the attempt.

The real per-roll odds are always printed on the option before you click, so check them. For the catalogue of what can roll, see Enchants.

Stacking the odds

  • Enchant Dust: raises the success chance; the boost shows up directly on the displayed odds. Dust is no longer capped at 99%: pile on enough and the roll becomes a guaranteed 100%. (An undusted roll is still capped at 99%.)
  • Enchant Reroll: don't like the options? Reroll them for a fresh set.
  • Enchant Catalyst: insurance: if the roll fails, the catalyst saves it.
  • Gang upgrades: certain gang perks improve your Wormhole success odds.

You can drop your Dust Satchel at the Wormhole to instantly spend its pooled dust on the enchant you're looking at (up to a guaranteed 100%) instead of flicking dust in one at a time.

Mining enchants on armour

Mining enchants also roll on armour through the Wormhole, competing with combat enchants for slots. The Godly versions come from Enchant Orbs. See Mining Enchants on Armour for the full list.

Good to know

  • What goes in: Ancient pickaxes, Ancient gear (armour and weapons), shard satchels, contraband satchels, gen breakers and Dust Satchels all level through the Wormhole. Satchels and gen breakers level only. They don't roll enchants.
  • What's refused: entangled pickaxes (break the link with /unentangle first) and Rift event pickaxes, which can never be kept or enchanted.
  • Queueing: up to 10 items can wait — the next starts when the current one returns.
  • Don't log out mid-enchant. Leaving while your item is inside resolves the roll as a failure, so you lose the energy, but the item itself comes back untouched.
  • Restarts are safe: if the server restarts while your item is in the Wormhole, it's returned to you when you're back.
  • Calcite enchants have their own ritual at the separate Calcite Wormhole, past the Cavernheart portal in the Calcite Caverns. See Calcite Enchants.

This page sits under Currencies alongside the other economy sinks; the Wormhole is where the special items above end up getting spent.

Version history

v3.0.0

  • A failed enchant no longer levels your item or adds a fail — the item comes back exactly as it went in, and the attempt still spends the energy you charged.
  • Enchant Dust is no longer capped at 99% success. Dust an enchant to a guaranteed 100%, and dropping your Dust Satchel spends up to 100% on the enchant you're looking at.
  • Rift event pickaxes can no longer be dropped into either Wormhole, and entangled pickaxes still need /unentangle first.
  • Calcite Charge Satchels are gone from the list of things you can level here; Dust Satchels and Contraband Satchels level here instead.

v2.0.0

  • Drop your Dust Satchel while enchanting to instantly spend pooled dust and boost the enchant you're looking at toward 99% success, no more flicking dust in one at a time.
  • Mining enchants now roll on armour through the Wormhole, competing with combat enchants for slots.
  • Calcite enchant odds on pickaxes halved at the Calcite Wormhole (Cavern Luck, Cataclysmic Shatter, Prismatic Efficiency).
